An independent two-person crew went up the side of an NAF convoy against a sponsored team for a corporate data core. They did not drive better or steal cleaner. They choked one fewer time at the exact place choking ends your night.

A crew with no garage and no sponsor went up an NAF convoy against Los Creeps, who had everything except a Jumper who could keep his feet. RATLINE did not drive better or steal cleaner. They choked one fewer time at the exact place choking ends your night, and that is the whole sport in one sentence.

EVENTThe Glass Forest Intercept // lift a corporate data core off an NAF logistics convoy
FORMATTwo crews, head to head, same target. First to extract wins. Six-round convoy clock.
RATLINESparrow Vane (Jockey, wolf-stock) + Mags Okonkwo (Jumper, capuchin-stock). Independent, salvage sled, no sponsor.
LOS CREEPSTono Vasquez (Jockey) + Javier Monsoon (Jumper). Sponsored, fast, a real garage behind them.
COURSEGlass Forest elevated highway, mirrored towers, a convoy in the middle lane and Monitor Central waking up one drone at a time.
OBJECTIVEJockey closes to Locked In, Jumper boards and lifts the core, then bail back and deliver to the launch point.
WINFirst crew to extract the core. Security Pressure 6 blows the event (no package, no pay).

The Glass Forest is the prettiest place in Lost Angeles to lose a race. Twelve minutes of elevated highway under mirrored towers, an NAF logistics convoy threading the middle lane with a corporate data core bolted into its spine, and Monitor Central waking up one drone at a time. Two crews took the same job off the same Syndicate board. RATLINE, a salvage sled and two gene-forged freelancers with nothing behind them. Los Creeps, who have a garage, a livery, and Javier Monsoon.

RATLINE drove the first minute like the underdogs they are, which is to say they got out front by refusing to be careful. Sparrow Vane has wolf-stock reflexes and treats positional buffer the way other Jockeys treat fuel, something to spend. Mags Okonkwo read the convoy from the hood of the sled, found the line nobody else saw, and coiled. For about ninety seconds it looked easy.

Then the convoy bit back. Sparrow buried a corner and nearly put the sled into a sensor pylon, and only an instinct save kept him in the run. Mags went for the board a beat early, missed the rear of the convoy entirely, and caught a railing with one hand over a forty-meter drop while Los Creeps sailed past underneath. By the time she pulled herself back onto the sled, Tono was alongside the convoy and Javier was already up on it, walking toward the core like he owned it.

EVERYONE UP TOP WAS ONE BAD HAND FROM THE LONG WAY DOWN.

What saved RATLINE was the thing that decides most Raid Race events, which is that the other crew's Jumper is also a person who can fall. Javier reached for the core and his footing went. He spent the next exchange just getting unstuck, and that was the window. Mags went up the roofline her capuchin stock was built for, the route Javier could not take, and arrived at the core a half second behind him and a full meter above.

She fumbled the grab. Hands cramping, two slots of composure gone, she got a glove on the core and could not pull it. For one exchange the data core sat loose on a moving convoy between two thieves who both wanted it, and the whole event came down to a single contested pull. Javier had the better hands and the worse luck. He lunged, slipped, and lost it clean. Mags took the core off the contest and did not let go.

The getaway was almost an anticlimax, which in this sport means it was the only part that went to plan. Tono tried to wall Sparrow off the exit and bounced off him. Javier threw himself at the sled and missed that too. Mags bailed off the convoy hard, took the landing on her ribs, and came up in the passenger seat with the core in her arms. Sparrow found the lane to the launch point and the package was gone to orbit before Los Creeps finished the corner. Security Pressure never crossed two. Nobody got detained. The bill was one cracked rib and the rumor, already spreading, that RATLINE will take a contract nobody else will touch.

// THE TAPE
R1RATLINE wins priority (6 vs 1). Sparrow Commits 2, 5: one fumble, one advance, Trailing to Chase. Mags reads the convoy and rolls a natural 6: Full FLOW banked. Tono nat 1s into a civilian lane (Los Creeps forces through, +1 their Pressure) but still reaches Chase.
R2Los Creeps surges. Sparrow's Commit to Locked In is a natural 1; he Edge-rerolls. Mags's board attempt is a natural 1, which fails even through Full FLOW // she misses the convoy and catches a railing over the drop. Tono reaches Locked In (3); Javier boards clean (5) and starts for the core.
R3RATLINE recovers. Sparrow's Edge reroll is a natural 6, advance two, straight to Locked In. Mags fails the GUTS check (2) for a Flesh Wound on the railing, then her re-Latch rides Full FLOW onto the convoy and a 5 Flows her toward the core. Los Creeps wins priority, but Javier rolls a natural 1: STUCK, loses GRIP, burns his turn clearing it.
R4The core scramble. Mags reaches the core, Flow comes up a natural 1 (STUCK, GRIP to 2); she takes +1 Pressure to clear and keep her action, then fumbles the Lift (2) under the penalty. Javier closes and his contested Lift is a natural 1, an auto-loss in the FIGHT. Mags wins the scramble and secures the core.
R5The getaway opens. Los Creeps wins priority. Tono's Block on Sparrow is a natural 1 against a 6; Tono loses the duel and falls back to Chase. Javier's desperate latch onto the sled is a natural 1, a clean miss. Mags bails with the core (2, a hard landing and a second Flesh Wound) but lands on the sled; Sparrow Commits clear (5).
R6Delivery. RATLINE wins priority. Sparrow's final Commit (4) puts the sled on the launch point and the core goes to orbit. Tono's catch-up (4) is a corner too late. Event to RATLINE.
// WORKBENCH
// HOW IT ACTUALLY PLAYED

The headline is the natural ones. Five landed in six rounds, and where they landed decided everything. RATLINE ate two early, Sparrow's Commit and Mags's board, and looked finished by round two. Los Creeps then rolled three of their own, all on Javier, all at the core or the exit, which is the worst possible place for a Jumper to find a one. The honest read is not that RATLINE played better. It is that the crew who survives their own bad rolls wins, and RATLINE had the tools to survive: a wolf-stock Edge reroll that came up a six, and a round-one Full FLOW surge that bought back the board.

The turn it swung was round four, the contested Lift, and the three lessons from it travel to any table:

One house ruling to flag, Jesse. The events list their clocks in minutes // the Glass Forest convoy hardens in twelve // but the rules never say how many rounds a minute-clock is worth. The desk ran twelve minutes as six rounds, two minutes a round, and it produced a tight finish that resolved on the last turn. A one-line minutes-to-rounds conversion in the rules would make every season event playable straight off the page. Logged.

// DISPOSITION
RESULTRATLINE extracts the data core and delivers to the launch point on Round 6. Los Creeps blanked.
FINAL PRESSURERATLINE 1 of 6 (Clean throughout). Los Creeps 2.
CASUALTIES // RATLINEMags 2 Flesh Wounds (a missed board and a hard bail). Sparrow down to 1 LINE but intact. None detained.
CASUALTIES // LOS CREEPSNo wounds, no package, no pay. Javier on 2 GRIP and a long ride home.
MVPMags Okonkwo (RATLINE). Reached the core off the roofline, won the scramble after fumbling her own grab, and carried it out on a hard landing.
HONORSSparrow Vane, for the Edge reroll that came up a natural 6 and the Block that bounced Tono off the exit.
