Four two-seat crews race a stolen case to an off-world launch barge before the Compact seals the Bosphorus, and whoever wins hands a buyer the one thing that ends the city's neutrality.
The Situation
A shielded containment case came up out of a seabed maintenance corridor last night and surfaced in a dockside transfer in Karakoy. A Syndicate broker logged it as a Raid Race package with an off-world launch slot and put the call out on the betting networks. Four crews are converging on the transfer right now, engines warm, Jumpers checking lines.
The Bosphorus Compact knows only that an unsanctioned race is about to run its most surveilled zone. It does not yet know the case holds physical proof that its Snow Leopards have been tapping the seabed cables for eleven years. The crossing ceremony broadcast goes out at dawn, and the Compact can deny the strait with a single order. Everyone is racing toward the same water, and the water is about to close.
Objectives
- Primary · Take the case from the Karakoy transfer and deliver it to the launch barge off the Asian shore before the Compact denies the crossing.
- Secondary · Finish ahead of the rival crews. The purse and the season standing both ride on the order of arrival.
- Secondary · Decide what launches. Once a crew learns what the case proves, sending it up is a choice, not a formality.
The Clocks
- Main · Crossing Denial. The Compact seals the Bosphorus on Turn 8. After that the bridge and the registered water lanes are dead. Only the underground or a contested open run reaches the far shore.
- Pressure · Snow Leopard heat. Every raised alarm, open weapon, or tampered sensor adds 1 to a 5-step heat clock. At 3, a Snow Leopard team locks onto the crew holding the case. At 5, the Compact stops policing the race and starts hunting the package itself.
- Rival · Meridian's lead. The favorite crew reaches the barge on Turn 6 unless someone Blocks them, Drifts them off their line, or burns their route.
Leverage Points
- The case reads on no scanner. A Jumper has to carry it by hand. That keeps it off every sensor in the city, and it also makes whoever holds it the only target worth chasing.
- The crossing ceremony broadcast names the exact denial time in its word choice. A retired Compact signals analyst in a Karakoy tea house can read it for you. Ask her and you cross on schedule. You also enter Elif Demir's monitoring log as a debt with no stated terms.
- The Sons of the Serpent will open the underground transit, eighteen degrees and off every map, for one undefined favor redeemable in thirty days. Take it and you slip the surveillance. You also surface a route the PCU investigation has hunted for four months.
- A Snow Leopard field unit has gone dark in Beyoglu and is not reporting to the Compact. They can wave a crew through the bridge cordon. They want the case for their own reasons and will not say which.
- The barge launch window is narrow. A clean Line Read tags the open lane early. Broadcast that tag and you tell every rival, and the Compact, exactly where extraction sits.
Opposition
- Meridian (rival crew) · wolf-stock Jockey, capuchin-stock Jumper, flown in off the Lost Angeles circuit and favored to win. Running the bridge route, registration paid, fast and clean. They do not know the Compact will lock the strait. Strand them on a denied crossing and they will deal with anyone for a way over.
- Snow Leopard interdiction (Bosphorus Compact) · gene-forged urban units built for elevated terrain, enforcing the weapons-display ban and transit registration. Right now they are refereeing a race. The moment they understand what the case proves, they stop refereeing and move to bury it, crews and all.
- The Galata crew (local, Sons-adjacent) · dock runners racing for neighborhood pride and a quiet Sons retainer. They plan to take the underground. They will trade the route or sell your position, depending on who treats them straight at the transfer.
Climax Variable (d6)
Roll when the crew reaches the strait with the case.
| d6 | Twist at the water |
|---|---|
| 1 | The Compact moves the order up. The crossing denies one turn early. Recount your route. |
| 2 | Meridian is already at the barge, loading their own cargo. The launch window closes in one turn unless a crew contests the deck. |
| 3 | The dark Snow Leopard unit surfaces on the far ramp and offers a clean crossing for the case. Cross free and lose the package, or run them and keep it. |
| 4 | The barge captain will not launch an unverified package and cracks the case open on the deck. The cable-tap proof is now in the open, and the stream is watching. |
| 5 | If you took the underground, the cell leader's cover burned in the surfacing and PCU watchers hold the Asian exit. If you did not, the exit is clear but the bridge behind you is already sealed. |
| 6 | The betting feed breaks the case's contents live, mid-crossing. Launch now and a buyer above the atmosphere owns the proof that ends Istanbul's neutrality. Sink it in the strait and you lose the purse but the Compact's deterrent survives. Choose before the barge fires. |
Breadcrumbs
Seed it early. The dock manifest lists the case as recovered from a seabed maintenance corridor and flags it unscannable, and a Bazaar Circuit whisper ties the package to a launch slot registered at a High Ground orbital address. The maintenance-corridor line pays off when the case cracks on the barge deck and the crew finally understands what it has been carrying. The orbital address points past tonight: someone above the atmosphere has been waiting for Istanbul's secret, and they are still up there after the barge fires.
The Not-Line
This is not a Lost Angeles points race with a clean getaway. It is a one-shot crossing where winning the race might end the city you raced across.
