The additional function is also real: Shackleton Station holds the second EREBUS authentication key, stored in a secure partition with legitimate scientific data layered around it.
NAF found the key six months ago. They don't know EO found their key twelve months earlier. Neither knows about the third key location. Commander Katya Volkov found the EO key herself and suspects NAF has located something similar — but hasn't confirmed it. She hasn't reported any of this to EO command.
